My Interview with Author DL Gallie

1.    When did you first realize you wanted to become a Writer/author? 

My husband had been telling me for a while that I should write and then one day in December 2015 an idea popped into my head and I stared writing The Liquor Cabinet Series

2.    Where do you get your ideas for your book?

the ideas just pop into my head. I can be listening to a song or doing something and it inspires me. I have note pads everywhere to jot down when the idea strike

3.    What kind of things do you enjoy when not writing?

Reading, catching up with friends, playing with my kids, drinking wine/beer/cocktails, I’m totally addicted to Candy Crush

4.    How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?

2 and I’ve started book 3. #2, Tequila Healing is my favourite, the character of Mike is a total larakin and I love him to pieces – he may or may not be sort of based on my husband

5.    Do you have any suggestions to help others who have a passion for writing?

Write for you, don’t write for anyone else.

6.    What do you think makes a great story?

Character chemistry, whether it be between lovers, friends or family. If there is no chemistry, for me, it’s a turn off

7.    Which Writer/Authors inspire you?

AD Justice, JL Perry, AM Gillham, BJ Harvey, Lyssa Layne and Rebecca Rohman; they have all helped me with different aspects of writing and self publishing.

Inspiration, would be AD Justice, Dean Koontz and Patricia Cornwell. I would love tomy able to wrote mystery and intrigue like them.

8.    What are you working on at the moment?(optional)

Currently working on book 3 in the series, its taken a different path to the first two and I’m excited to see where it leads to

Romantic Suspense

10.What drew you to the genre you write?

I’ve always liked romantic suspense books, when I started writing I didn’t have a clear vision but it went the suspense route and now I love it

Finding the time during school holidays. Making sure my story is original and not like anything else out there

14.Any tips on how to get through the dreaded Writer’s block?

This is funny because I just had this happen for the first time. I walked away and said “I’ll get back when they start talking” As soon as I stepped back, the voices appeared again

15.Do you read much, and if so who are your favorite Authors or genres?

I read each night before bed. My tastes vary from Fifty Shades, to biographies to Misery to The Power of One. I read whatever seems interesting to me

My Interview with Author Whitley Cox

1.     When did you first realize you wanted to become a Writer/author?

I wanted to be a writer as far back as elementary school. But then my love of dolphins made me lean towards Marine Biology, and through the years my tastes and interests changed and people told me writers don’t make any money, so I abandoned the notion. But then backpacking for my honeymoon and all the adventures my husband and I had reignited my passion for the written word and story telling. I came home after six months and twelve countries, and started putting my thoughts to paper, and I haven’t looked back since.

2.     Where do you get your ideas for your book?

Everyday life, my friendships, my friend’s stories, weird conversations I’ve had with people. My own experiences, things I’ve read or watched on television. Everything and anything can be an inspiration, it’s all in how we perceive it. Some of the zany text-message conversations in my books are actual text-messages I’ve had with my friends.

3.     What kind of things do you enjoy when not writing?

I have a vivacious two-year-old, and she keeps me busy and entertained. We also have a fluffy dog whose coat alone is a fulltime job. But I also enjoy running and exercising, cooking and random forms of art like painting and felt crafts.

4.     How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?

“Technically” I’ve written seven. But because my first five (a complete series) are on the longer side, I’ve decided to chop each book in half and release them as two-parts. So a five story series will be released as ten books in total. And then I have two other books completed. One stand-alone and the first book of a new four book series I’ve started. So I guess you could say I’ve written seven, but have twelve completed books to release.

5.     Do you have any suggestions to help others who have a passion for writing?

Write what you’re passionate about. Write true to yourself and don’t let anyone sway your style if it doesn’t feel right in the end.

6.     What do you think makes a great story?

Complex characters who grow and change, and a compelling storyline. That being said, I’ve read books where I like the characters and the storyline is decent but the writing style itself is tough to swallow. I have a challenging time getting through choppy writing where the same verb/noun is used over and over again. Find a synonym for “nipple” because if it’s on the same page eight times it’s going to be distracting and pull your readers from the story. 

7.     Which Writer/Authors inspire you?

Sylvia Day, Diana Gabaldon, Rosina Lippi, Cora Seton, Susan Hayes, Rebecca Zanetti.

8.     What are you working on at the moment?(optional)

The first book I ever wrote, “Sex, Heat and Hunger” which became book 3 and 4 in my first series (The Dark and Damaged Hearts Series), is my one of my favorites and my favorite couple. And although their story is far from over, and we see their life together take shape throughout the rest of the series, I’ve decided to write their honeymoon. It’ll be a shorter novel, 40-60K words, but I’m excited to write them again. And instead of the initial get-to-know-you kind of romance, I get to dive right into the all-consuming, undying passion.

9.     What genre are your books?

Contemporary Erotic Romance. But my books are full of humor, a touch of darkness, lots of realism (I embrace reality and skirt the edge of fantasy) and lots of beginner kink.

10.What drew you to the genre you write?

It’s fun to write. It’s hot and it sells. 

11.Which Actor/Actress would you like to see portraying the lead character from your most recent book?(any book you like)

Ooh… I’d love it if Rachelle Lefevre played Kendra and I think Jensen Ackles would be a great Justin. This is the lead couple in my first book “Love, Passion and Power”

 

12.Do you write full-time or part-time?

I write when I find the time. So part-time I guess. I’m a Stay-at-home-mom, so I write during naps and once the kiddo is in bed for the night. 

13.What is the hardest thing about writing?

Finding the time to write. Killing your darlings. Self-promotion and getting your name out there. Harsh reviewers.

14.Any tips on how to get through the dreaded Writer’s block?

I pick a different art path, like felt work or painting, so I’m still using the right side of my brain, but just in a different way. I also come up with some of my best scenes while exercising. But if none of that works to cure the block, then I read. I read other people’s work for inspiration, and more often than not, that lights the fire back under my butt and I’m good to go.

15.Do you read much, and if so who are your favorite Authors or genres?

I used to read a ton. But now it’s tough to find enough hours in the day to read and write. But I read all kinds. Self-help parenting books, romance, erotic romance, comedy, fantasy etc. I love Diana Gabaldon, Sylvia Day, Sara Donati, Cindy Gerard, Rebecca Zanetti, Paul Sussman, J.K. Rowling, George R.R. Martin and Terry Goodkind to name a few.

16.Is there anything else you would like to add that I haven’t included?

I can’t think of anything, ha-ha!

My Interview with Author AJ Renee

1.      When did you first realize you wanted to become a Writer/author?

I would say that it was after I wrote Widower’s Aura. I realized it was something I would have purchased for myself as a reader. I missed the high I got during scenes when I didn’t know what was coming until my fingers would fly over the keyboard.

2.      Where do you get your ideas for your book?

‘What if’s’ really are the beginning to my ideas. Widower’s Aura was an idea after my best friend died. She never had her own love story. As I wrote Widower’s Aura I really enjoyed Lindsey and Marc’s story and that’s how I realized it would become a series.

3.      What kind of things do you enjoy when not writing?

Reading, video games, running (which I need to get back to), movies, and traveling are a few of the things I enjoy doing.

4.      How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?

I have almost three books written now. There are also two short stories. I almost feel like the one I’m currently working on is my favorite, so it’s always changing.

5.      Do you have any suggestions to help others who have a passion for writing?

As much as it frustrates even me to hear, patience. Don’t rush things. The writing needs time as does the editing and marketing. It’s hard work but you don’t want to hate it by putting too much pressure on yourself.

6.      What do you think makes a great story?

The relationship between the characters. You can’t get into a novel that has an abundance of detail or flat characters you can’t relate to. Luckily no two people are alike so we have a vast amount of personalities to enjoy coming together.

7.      Which Writer/Authors inspire you?

Marie Force, Kathleen Brooks, Carina Adams, Rachel VanDyken... to name a few. I’ve been following MF, KB, and RVD since their beginnings so to see how far they have come makes me feel like a cheerleader on the sidelines.

8.      What are you working on at the moment?(optional)

I’m editing and prepping Always Mine for it’s March release. I will then finish writing book three of the St. Fleur series, Duplicity. I also just wrote a short story for a blog.

9.      What genre are your books?

Contemporary Romance and Suspense 

10.  What drew you to the genre you write?

It’s the genre I love to devour. Before I wrote Widower’s Aura I was like most readers. I could easily read 7+ books in a week.

Josh Duhamel is my Noah Tyler.

12.  Do you write full-time or part-time?

Part-time. I’m a stay at home mom so all of my work (writing, social media, etc...) revolves around my family.

13.  What is the hardest thing about writing?

The guilt. I write with my girls around because if not I’d never write. The mommy guilt makes me wonder if I’m neglecting them at times. 

14.  Any tips on how to get through the dreaded Writer’s block?

I find that reading your work from the beginning puts you in the story as a reader and when you get to where you hit a wall the ideas are flowing again.

15.  Do you read much, and if so who are your favorite Authors or genres?

Lately I haven’t been reading as much as I’d like. I’ll get 2-3 pages in before my Nook hits me in the face because I’m falling asleep. I love romance.

16.  Is there anything else you would like to add that I haven’t included?

Thank you to the readers and bloggers who support me and other writers. There are some dark days where I find myself wondering why I’m putting myself through all the extra stress and then I’ll receive a message or review that shows me that people do care.

My Interview with Author Shayne Ford

When did you first realize you wanted to become a Writer/author?

I never thought I'd become a writer despite writing my first story when I was a teen. It was never about me becoming an author as it was about writing stories that I enjoyed. I’ve been a voracious reader since I can remember and being able to tailor a story to my taste it’s an incredible experience.  Initially, I didn’t even think I could bring a novel to completion, let alone end up with a pile of stories. And then I realized I could publish them and make them available to other people as well, and possibly find those readers who enjoy them as much as I do.

Where do you get your ideas for your book?

Life, my experience, bits, and pieces that catch my eyes and stimulate my imagination. The stories come to me one way or another.
Sometimes they start with something small, a scene, a setting, a piece of dialogue, the glimpse of someone who spurs my imagination and then, they evolve from there.

What kind of things do you enjoy when not writing?

I read a lot. I love cars, so I enjoy driving. Photography. Walking.

How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?

I currently work on several series. The six books now published belong to two of those series. I love all of them.
Do you have any suggestions to help others who have a passion for writing?


Write. Read a lot. Regardless the genre, make the writing as entertaining as possible. Have a secondary source of income. Ideally, something that doesn’t eat all your time and allows you to pursue your passion. Ideally, have supportive people around you. People who understand the kind of effort and commitment it takes.

What do you think makes a great story?

A great story is a journey. It takes you somewhere. It pulls you in. A good story doesn’t necessarily equate with good writing. Even poorly written books have the capacity to deliver great stories.

Which Writer/Authors inspire you?

I enjoy many. It wouldn’t be fair to name only a few.

What are you working on at the moment?(optional)

Finishing one of the series.

What genre are your books?

New Adult Erotic Romance

What drew you to the genre you write?

I wanted to write something I enjoy, and hopefully others. Life can be really shitty sometimes and books are one of the most accessible forms of escapism.
I enjoy reading Erotic Romance and that’s what I write.
My personal preference goes to the New Adult age group (18 to 30). I happen to believe that it’s one of the best parts of life and often times it goes by without people having the wisdom to fully enjoy it.
Why Erotic Romance?
One of the deepest connection with another human being happens in the bedroom. Intellectually, it’s an inexhaustible source of human’s psyche exploration and a great way to bring a character to life.

Which Actor/Actress would you like to see portraying the lead character from your most recent book?(any book you like)

Although I do have a clear picture of how the lead characters look and act like, I can’t think of an actor/actress to portray them. I’m sure there are numerous talented people who could play those characters, and I wouldn’t mind someone less known if it checks most of the points on my list.
A certain kind of look is quintessential (the kind that cameras love, it’s not that common lately in the movies) and also the capacity to express a variety of emotions and convey the erotic element of the story without being creepy, awkward, cheesy or overtly explicit. Ha, ha. Not a tall order at all.
Chemistry between the protagonists is also paramount.

Do you write full-time or part-time?

Full-time.

What is the hardest thing about writing?

Pulling your brain out of the creative mode to deal with the mundane stuff, and then plugging it back on.

Any tips on how to get through the dreaded Writer’s block?

Relax, listen to some music, work on the outline, watch something that inspires you. Spend some time alone. Or just take a nap and write when you wake up with a fresh mind.

Do you read much, and if so who are your favorite Authors or genres?

I used to read much more than I do now. My favorite genre is New Adult Erotic Romance.

My Interview with Author A.M. Johnson

1.     When did you first realize you wanted to become a Writer/author? 

    From the moment I learnt how to write a sentence. I have always loved putting words down onto paper. I use to spend my pocket money on pads and pens/pencils.

2.     Where do you get your ideas for your book?

   I want to say the Universe but it sounds like I’m not being serious, when in fact I am. I’m not overly sure where my ideas come from. People watching is and always has been fun to me, making up stories about where they are hurrying of to and what they are thinking. But I have always had a vivid imagination.

3.     What kind of things do you enjoy when not writing? 

   I love making my own jams, pickles and preserves. Cheese making is another love. Along with reading, cross stitching and collecting small glass figurines.

4.     How many books have you written?

 I have written two, Azore’s Quest- an Erotic fantasy and Witches the Chronicles of # 10 – YA fantasy.  Which is your favorite? I love both but my favourite is Witches. It was a really fun story to write and I totally fell for my own characters. I am looking forward to writing book two.

5.     Do you have any suggestions to help others who have a passion for writing? 

   Don’t think, DO!! Amazon and the self publishing industry make it so easy to get your words out there. Why wait? If I had had access to Amazon years ago, I would have so many stories published.

6.     What do you think makes a great story?

 The characters and the plot. As a reader I NEED to fall for at least one of the characters to really get into the story. But the story itself has to be interesting as well, I mean I don’t care how strong a character he/she is but if the only thing they are doing is painting a wall, then I’m probably not going to hang around. Now if they are painting the whole mansion, then it could get interesting. I feel the same way when I write, I want wicked characters. Nothing wishy washy or blah, good or bad they need to be worthy of reading!

7.     Which Writer/Authors inspire you?

 So many Indie authors have inspired me to have a go. Terra James a wicked author, who is also my just as wicked PA, urged me to get my words out there. As did D.L. Colon, another wicked author, his advice to take the Step, will always ring for me!

8.     What are you working on at the moment?

(optional)    I am so excited about my WIP. It is called Jiana’s Curse and is Book 2 in the Azore’s Quest series. It tells the story behind Jiana; elf, blacksmith/swordsmith, how she came to be what she is, her past. As Jiana is one of the main characters in Azore’s Quest this book is answering a lot of questions that hung around her.

9.     What genre are your books? 

   Azore’s Quest is Erotic Fantasy, definitely 18+. Witches the Chronicles of # 10 is YA fantasy. It was actually proof read by a 13-year-old girl. So it is very age friendly.

10.What drew you to the genre you write? 

                I don’t know that anything actually drew me to either genre in particular, it was more; this is the story and this is where it’s going, so I wrote.

11.Which Actor/Actress would you like to see portraying the lead character from your most recent book?

(any book you like)    Jason Momoa as Zadicus Jeremiah Hunt the 12^th. The lead warlock in my Witches the Chronicles of # 10.

12.Do you write full-time or part-time?

 I write part time, I also work part time as a barista. So I write most mornings before work. The dream is to be a full time writer.

13.What is the hardest thing about writing?

  At this stage I find the actual act of writing to be very easy, it just flows. I pick up my fountain pen and notebook and just write. I find the marketing parts and formatting are the hardest for me. I just want to write..

14.Any tips on how to get through the dreaded Writer’s block?

 I have yet to experience it, so no advice or tips.

15.Do you read much, and if so who are your favorite Authors or genres?

 I have loved to read since for ever. I am a major horror fan, I was teethed on Graham Masterton, Stephen King, Dean Koontz. These days I am finding amazing horror authors in the Indie world. S.E. Rise, Michael Bray, Yolanda Olson. So many. Although Horror is probably my favourite genre, I also love paranormal, supernatural, fantasy; Lisa Kessler, David Gemmel, D.L. Colon. Then there are authors that write a good solid story about people: S. Nelson is without a doubt my favourite., along with Brenda Novak

16.Is there anything else you would like to add that I haven’t included?

 I guess, just the fact that I love life and I live in the best place on the face of the planet, the Derwent Valley in Tasmania Australia. I refuse to have regrets, so I tend to say YES!!  And THANK YOU!! To anyone who takes a chance on reading my books!! <3
