1.
When did you first realize you wanted
to become a Writer/author?
One of my mother’s friends was a writer, when I was a young
child. I always found her fascinating –
magical almost. I decided to start
writing my own stories, which I would read to my mother instead of her reading
me a bedtime story.
2.
Where
do you get your ideas for your book?
I typically start with a character whose quirky personality
captures my attention. Then I build
their history, an explanation of events/circumstances which has colored their
outlook on life. Lastly, I throw them
into a situation and watch how they react.
3.
What
kind of things do you enjoy when not writing?
Obviously, I love reading (what author doesn’t). I also enjoy “momming”, which is getting to
do all the fun activities that kids do with the excuse of being their parent
(yes I am the mom crawling through all the tunnels at the playground).
4.
How
many books have you written? Which is your favorite?
So far I have written two books: A Perfect Plan (released 5/20/16)
and An Imperfect Engagement (pending release date). I cannot pick a favorite between the two;
that is just not fair to either book.
5.
Do
you have any suggestions to help others who have a passion for writing?
Do no stifle your imagination with doubt. Ignore the little voice in your head which
discounts your ability and just keep writing.
The best thing anyone ever told me was, “Your book will find the people
who need it.”
6.
What
do you think makes a great story?
A great story is made from great characters. When the reader connects with the
hero/heroine, they lose themselves in the story. A great story can make you forget your own
reality.
7.
Which
Writer/Authors inspire you?
There are too many authors to name. I am most inspired by indie authors. Their perseverance, dedication and support to
other authors is immeasurable. I am
honored to be included in the community.
8.
What
are you working on at the moment?(optional)
I am currently (slowly) working on the third book in the
Wiltshire Chronicles series, A Perfect Deception – and no, I will not tell you
who the double-crosser is.
9.
What
genre are your books?
I write historical, romantic suspense.
10.
What
drew you to the genre you write?
This genre is a combination of all things I love to read – romance,
mystery, suspense and the Victorian era (think Pride and Prejudice with
murder).
11.
Which
Actor/Actress would you like to see portraying the lead character from your
most recent book?(any book you like)
I have always pictured Emma Stone as Samantha; she is spunky,
fun and a little tomboyish, with the whole girl next door personal. Plus, I can definitely see Emma fencing.
12.
Do
you write full-time or part-time?
Sadly, I only get to write part-time. I would love it to be a full-time occupation,
but that is not possible yet.
13.
What
is the hardest thing about writing?
The hardest thing about writing is stopping mid-thought. I write on the train and when I arrive at my
station, I have to pack everything away.
Typically I will not touch it again until the afternoon.
14.
Any
tips on how to get through the dreaded Writer’s block?
Writer’s block…so much fun.
My advice is to write about anything.
Write about your day, write a grocery list, write a letter to someone –
anything to get your mind back into the creative mode.
15.
Do
you read much, and if so who are your favorite Authors or genres?
I do not read as much as I would like to. However, my top three authors are JK Rowling,
JD Robb and Julia Quinn (I must have a thing for J authors).
16.
Is
there anything else you would like to add that I haven’t included?
I am currently running a giveaway on my page for the month of
November. I am giving everyone a chance
to win a $10 GC and a copy of A Perfect Plan for themselves and a friend.
17.
How
can Readers discovery more about you and your work?
Thank you Alyssa Drake for taking the time for this Interview :)
